American Muslim Community Dialogue Envisioning Islam in America
Salam Academy

The Appreciative Inquiry Process
The Students of the Salam Academy – Envisioning Islam in America
The students interviewed Muslims in Albuquerque and they found that the interviewees want:
  • More compassion and brotherhood among Muslims

  • More understanding and stronger ties between Muslims through community participation

  • More unity among different cultures, ethnicities and nationalities

  • People of different cultures to talk more with each other using better ways of communication

  • Both brothers and sisters to go beyond cultural restraints – and reach out more to the different cultures and ethnicities through knowledge

  • They want a stronger Ummah, which means:

  • More Muslims praying in the masjid

  • More Muslims attending Jumu'ah and Fajr prayers

  • Eids becoming national holidays

  • And the Adhan proclaimed out loud
They also want:
  • To have more converts

  • To have a bigger new mosque in a better location

  • To have better fund raising – although money is not everything…

  • …People to volunteer more

  • Interviewees wanted greater emphasis on education

  • To have more activities at the masjid for kids

  • To have Qur'an classes

  • To have better Muslim education for the youth and an improved Muslim school

  • To have, in summary, “a Muslim community that is a better environment for kids”

They also stressed a need for:
  • More understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims
In sum, the students said that:
  • More Unity,
  • More Cooperation,
  • & More Organization,
Will Bring SUCCESS
